"La Cala" is approximately 25 minutes drive west from Malaga International Airport. La Cala was a former fishing village and therefore has a more traditional feel than anywhere else between Marbella and Fuengirola. The area encompasses quite a large area, going back up into the hills behind, and leading into the golf fairways of La Cala Resort and Mijas Golf. Mijas Hippodrome, one of just two operating racecourses in Andalucia, is just a few minutes drive away.

The commercial centre of La Cala village has all the main amenities, such as a supermarket, some good quality bars, restaurants and shops. Everything is of an international flavour, but there is still a traditional Spanish heart to La Cala that attracts people wanting to buy a property in a location that still offers a mix of culture.

Sitio de Calahonda, Riviera del Sol and Miraflores are large urbanisations made up of a full range of properties, including apartments, villas and family townhouses. Most of the building has been limited well, with strictly low-rise blocks, and the provision of lots of green areas. They have developed over the years mostly due to the influx of ex-pats.

Starting at the beachside, where you find most of the areas bars, restaurants, supermarkets and shops – the urbanisations have spread up to the base of the mountain, giving spectacular views to the properties situated up there. The majority of ex-pats here are British, therefore many British style pubs and restaurants have been opened, catering massively for tourists and residents who like to have the comforts of home nearby. Properties are definitely more affordable here, as this is not intended to be an exclusive area. It is excellent for families, retirees, and anyone wishing to get on the property ladder in the sunshine!
